How do I upgrade from eTree 1.6.1 to the present 1.7 without loosing all data on our (eTree) users ?

Erik, uninstall eTree and re-install new version. If you have editing the language, make a backup of the /language/en-GB/en-GB.com_etree.ini file then once you updated, replace the new on with your backup.
As long as you have made no modifications to your files this will not remove data.
